
Earlier this year, we gathered online for an interactive, French-language “Super Collab” — In This session, we used AI to help organize our ideas in a real-time exploration of how humans can learn and grow alongside AI. It was part conversation, part collaboration, and completely engaging. 

Here’s a look at what we created together:

**Participants**

This “Super Collab” had a vibrant energy with participants joining from all corners of the world — including Africa, Switzerland, and North Carolina. I tuned in from Vancouver and was happy for the opportunity to practice my French and hear the diverse perspectives of the other participants.

**Co-Construction Consciente**

This session centred around a theme we’ve been exploring in depth this year: **Active Learning in Relation to AI**.

During the ideation period, or co-construction, we reflected on powerful questions like:

- What is inherent to human nature? What can people do to improve themselves on an individual basis? 


- How can use human-machine integration to connect more deeply with our own humanity?


- Is it possible that artificial intelligence can increase human intelligence?

**Dialogue avec le chat IA**

After a thoughtful co-construction period,  we began a dialogue with various generative AI models. We asked Gemini, Claude, ChatGPT, and Mistral to summarize the “concepts clés” from our collaborative whiteboard.

<u>Claude noted:</u>

“Ce tableau montre une approche équilibrée entre technologie et humanité, soulignant l'importance de l'apprentissage continu.”

Translation:

*This whiteboard shows a balanced approach between technology and humanity, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning.*

<u> Gemini said:</u>

"Il soulève des questions cruciales sur le rôle de l'homme dans le développement de l'IA et comment nous pouvons utiliser l'IA pour améliorer nos capacités et résoudre des problèmes complexes.”


Translation:

*It raises crucial questions about the role of humans in the development of AI and how we can use AI to enhance our capabilities and solve complex problems.*

**Cercle de Fermeture**

To wind down after a powerful session, we began our closing circle. It’s here where participants shared reflections and feedback and takeaways. 
Some of their key thoughts included:

- Intégrer les nouveaux outils

- Développer la capacité de réfléchir

- Intégrer les aspects philosophiques

- Apprécier la richesse de la diversité


All in all, participants commented positively on their experience, calling it: 

“Super bien!” - *Very good!*

“Ça nous fait plaisir!” - *It was our pleasure!*

“Inscrivez-vous!” - *Sign-up!*


I too found this collab to be *super bien*! It was an enriching experience and I learned a lot from the participants and the discussion we had. I can’t wait for our next one!

Exploring Active Learning and AI: Highlights from Our February Super Collab

Our most recent Knowledge Lab was a lively session full of meaningful conversation. This time, we had the pleasure of hosting participants from all over the world! The session’s collaborators zoomed in from Italy, Switzerland, France, Maryland, Montreal and Kitchener—making for a conversation filled with diverse perspectives. 

For most, it was their first time using Web-Idea-Pro, the platform which allowed the group to create bubbles and join ideas together during the collaborative ideation process. 

The collaboration process was supported by the intentional facilitation of the AIA team. To begin exploring inter-connected ideas and concepts, AIA founder Joel Muzard guided the group through a brief meditation bringing emphasis to the importance of focused attention, or as the saying goes, where attention goes, energy flows.

During the Knowledge Lab, we explored several themes surrounding how artificial intelligence informs human learning and evolution. The discussion ranged widely, from exploring the architecture of generative AI through a philosophical lens to examining how AI can support us in problem-solving and many things in-between. After the silent ideation period, there was lots for us to discuss and the conversation focused on three key areas:

AI as an Amplifier We explored how AI can amplify human expression and serve as a catalyst for deeper collective thinking. The group discussed ways to harness the ever-expanding arsenal of AI tools to better achieve our collective goals.

Human-Machine Integration We discussed how human-machine integration might help us connect more deeply with our own humanity, particularly when it comes to developing new approaches to problem-solving and thinking.

The Human Edge Perhaps most importantly, we examined what qualities remain uniquely human as AI becomes increasingly sophisticated. Together, we identified four key elements: learning, empathy, creation, and collaboration.

The experience was well-received by all, with participants feeling refreshed and energized by the quality and depth of conversation. The Web-Idea-Pro whiteboard format particularly stood out, providing helpful structure and enabling each participant to make meaningful contributions.

From the perspective of the AIA team, it was fantastic to meet new faces and a joy to exchange such bright ideas.

Active Learning and Augmenting Intelligence in the Era of AI

Joel Muzard & Pascal Bernardon from A-I-A recently collaborated with Maher Slouma and his students from Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France to host a unique event where the students took an active role in the learning process. This session, named a Café-Data demonstrated the power of active pedagogy, where students became direct participants in their learning journey rather than passive listeners.

Students divided into three groups to explore data organization through Web-Idea-Pro, focusing on: Data Players, Data Ecosystems and Dangers of Data

Unlike a typical university class, students separated themselves into three groups and instead of listening to a lecture, read articles about data organization and added bubbles in Web-Idea-Pro to explain what they understood. 

As usual, there’s no limit on what can be expressed during ideation time—every idea and thought is welcome. The goal is to create a space free of pressure or expectation of outcome and to give permission for anything that comes up—this is where the most interesting ideas are born. 



After ideation time, each of the three groups took a turn describing the different concept bubbles they created in the co-construction space. It’s here where they elaborated on their thoughts and ideas regarding data organization. 


Next, we did something new—using the AI feature of the new toolbar, the students exported parts of their work into different AI assistants in order to compare and contrast how different models process data While students acknowledged AI's efficiency ("fait gagner énormément de temps") and its ability to synthesize ideas ("ça condense énormément de bonnes idées et énormément de données intéressantes"), they also noted the importance of a balance between AI capabilities and human involvement. 

Lastly, in the closing circle students created bubbles and shared take-aways from the experience—they had several positive things to say:       

- First, they appreciated the collaborative approach, finding it more engaging than traditional passive learning. As one student noted in French, "ça nous a permis de pouvoir participer et pas juste être là. Passif à écouter, donc c'était assez agréable."

- Students noted the value of diverse AI tools and the importance of fact-checking—students commented on the value of multiple perspectives and the importance of ensuring accurate information. 


- Web-Idea-Pro to be a useful tool for learning learning according to the studens. They praised its effectiveness for synthesizing information and as a means for facilitating group collaboration. As expressed by one participant, "l'outil Webide Pro, qui est vraiment un outil intéressant pour les travaux de collaboration."

Web-Idea-Pro helped turn the class from a lecture to a collaborative event. Students were active participants in the learning process as they produced thoughtful concept bubbles and experimented with how generative AI can synthesize academic information. This type of participation helped them stay engaged and enthusiastic about their course material making the Café-Data an engaging educational process for all!

Re-imagining Active Pedagogy:  A Collaborative Learning Experience at Paul Sabatier University

Hi all! 


We’ve been working on some new features over here at Applied Intelligence Atelier. Here’s what’s new:


Web-Idea-Pro features an upgraded toolbar that I got to try out during a recent Knowledge Lab with Joel and a cast of participants. 


The new toolbar is the latest improvement in the ongoing evolution of the platform—like our Knowledge Labs, we're constantly implementing improvements as we continue to deepen our understanding on how best to share ideas. 


The new and improved toolbar features iconography instead of text. The icons are designed to be more visible and intuitive to use, resulting in a smoother user experience. 





Along with the redesign of the toolbar, we added an additional feature:integrated AI assistance for the purpose of condensing and summarizing the conversations and ideas from a K-LAB.


We did this so that no good idea gets forgotten. This feature filters for relevant information based on your parameters—like a search engine but for a conversation—and then shows you the result you asked for. 


Here’s how to use the AI feature: click the AI icon, copy the whiteboard of code into your favourite chatbot (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc…) and from there decide what you would like to know. The code itself is designed to provide your AI assistant with all information it needs in order to present it back to you in an easily digestible way. 


This feature is similar to taking “meeting notes,” but with the support of an AI chatbot who provides easily comprehensive and customizable information. 


In addition to our latest toolbar upgrade, we’ve placed the knowledge graph on an infinite whiteboard so that you and your team can co-create without limits!

Integrated AI Assistance & Innovative New Features on Web-Idea-Pro

What is a K-LAB? Knowledge Labs are a space for teams-members to visually collaborate on  important topics. They provide a setting for people to explore new concepts, develop solutions and share ideas in a free-form and supportive space. 
 
We began by introducing ourselves followed by a period for co-construction– an integral element of the K-LAB process. We were given time to freely associate words and topics using the software Web-Idea-Pro with no expectation of what the content might resemble. With the lack of pressure to produce something smart or coherent, I found that I was able to generate ideas much more freely and readily than I would have been had there been an expectation of my work being ‘good.’ 

I found that through the process of unmoderated ideation, I was able to deepen my connection to my own perspective and values.

I immediately gravitated to the bubble, “How to Increase our Humanity?” This was a fantastic exercise for me because, in going through the ideation process, I was reminded of my own personal values. Other bubbles included connecting with others, performing acts of service, and practicing compassion. Rarely in my day-to-day life am I prompted to consider how one can increase their humanity. In a world where we’re encouraged to always be on-the-go, always working and producing; it felt re-affirming to be provided with the opportunity to slow down and think freely without expectation. 

In addition, sharing time with my fellow K-LAB participants put me at ease as we worked in silence together. I felt connected to John, Pascal, and Joel as we expanded upon our own ideas and added to each other's bubbles. Afterwards, we shared our experience with the group. I found that in doing so, I was able to further expand upon my thoughts and gain a deeper understanding of what I was trying to communicate.

Upon ending the session I felt a greater sense of connection with the group and a clearer idea of my personal values, in addition to being reminded that my values should inform my goals and purpose moving forward.  As we said our goodbyes and ended the session, I felt an increased sense of shared human connection and a clearer sense of How to Increase our Humanity. A big thank you to Joel for facilitating– I’m looking forward to seeing what ideas and the topics the next K-LAB will inspire.

**How does A-I-A help?**

A-I-A helps get the ball rolling. We provide the opportunity to address gaps in communication by hosting Knowledge Labs where everyone is seen and heard. It's in this honest and empathetic space that each team member’s expertise can shine through.


In a relaxed, open-forum space, we facilitate the process of exchanging information. We invite everyone to participate enthusiastically and encourage dialogue that is clear, friendly and takes into account the communication needs of everyone involved.
